We're Going on a Mission!





Brian and I have been called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We'll be serving in the Trinidad Port of Spain mission, which is comprised of quite a few countries: Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, and the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao). 

We have been assigned to work on the island of Bonaire. It is a small island, and the people here speak 4 languages: Dutch, Papiamento, Spanish, and English. We will be attending and helping in a Spanish branch (congregation), and we have been taking Spanish lessons and tutoring for the past 5 months. We are hoping to volunteer and help the people of the island out as much as we can, and provide humanitarian service to the people who live in this area of the world. We can hardly wait! 

Brian and I enter the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah on November 7, 2022 and will be there for 2 weeks. We then fly to Bonaire to begin our service!

Dia di Boneiru (Bonaire Day)

Bonaire Day was held on September 6. It is an island-wide holiday, also known as Flag Day. It celebrates the traditional day that European explorers first arrived on the island. I convinced Elder Ridd to pop down to the town center at Wilhelmina Park to see some festivities. We walked around just after dinner, and saw some friends there before we went back home to make it in time for our Senior Missionary Zoom meeting (this is held each Wednesday night at 8pm).  There were lots of food + drink booths at the park, along with singing and dancing groups. There were also some booths were people sold souvenirs -jewelry, etc.   We were able to see our friend Melodie all dressed up in her dance outfit. She is in a Peruvian dance group. She looked so festive! Sadly we didn't get to see her dance.  All the major places in town - especially government buildings, were closed today. All week long, we saw many people with flags all over their cars and trucks, honoring the Bonaire...

What Have We Been Up To? And...What do Senior Missionaries Do? January 2023

What do we do as Senior Missionaries? This is a common question, and one that many people (including us!) have wondered and asked. The answer is - many things! We have filled our days with quite a few things. We mostly try to think "What good can we do today?" Lots of times in our regular lives at home, we want to do good things - but many things seem to get in the way of it. Now that we are full-time missionaries, we can dedicate more time to helping those who need help. Some of the things which we've done include:  Driving young missionaries all around - to appointments, to the grocery store, to church, etc.  They have bikes, but sometimes the distance is too far, and sometimes the rain prohibits them from biking.
